Principal Engineer, Autonomy

🚀 Principal Engineer, Autonomy

We're looking for an exceptional Principal Engineer to join a pioneering autonomy team developing next-generation autonomous vehicle technology operating in complex, real-world environments.

This is a rare opportunity for a senior technical leader to shape the future of production autonomy systems, taking ownership of the architecture and technical direction across perception, prediction, and planning within a high-performing engineering organisation.

You'll play a critical role in building intelligent systems that enable autonomous vehicles to perceive, understand, and safely navigate dynamic environments, delivering technology that improves operational efficiency, safety, and scalability at the forefront of autonomous mobility.

What You'll Do:

  • Own the technical direction for Perception, Prediction, Planning, or multiple areas across the autonomy stack
  • Design and evolve production-grade autonomy architecture with cross-functional influence across the entire software stack
  • Develop robust perception systems, including detection, tracking, classification, and multi-modal sensor fusion
  • Lead the design of prediction models for behaviour forecasting, intent inference, and complex edge-case handling
  • Architect planning systems for intelligent decision-making and autonomous vehicle behaviour
  • Partner with senior engineering leaders to drive technical strategy while mentoring other engineers through technical leadership
  • Deliver high-quality, production-ready software that operates reliably in safety-critical, real-world environments

What We're Looking For:

  • 10-15+ years of experience building production autonomous systems
  • Deep expertise in Perception, Prediction, Planning, or broader autonomy architecture
  • Proven track record of deploying autonomy software on real vehicles at commercial scale
  • Strong C++ and Python development experience
  • Experience with modern deep learning techniques for autonomous systems
  • Knowledge of ROS/ROS 2 and distributed on-vehicle computing environments
  • Experience working within safety-critical or highly regulated engineering environments is highly desirable

Why Join?

  • Shape the technical direction of cutting-edge autonomous vehicle technology
  • Solve complex real-world autonomy challenges with direct production impact
  • Work alongside an experienced, mission-driven engineering team tackling some of the industry's hardest technical problems
  • Competitive compensation, equity, and the opportunity to influence the future of commercial autonomy

If you're excited about solving some of the toughest challenges in autonomous systems and want to shape the future of real-world vehicle autonomy, we'd love to hear from you.
